Steve Isack, Regional Director, Member Services
As a PinnacleCare Advocate, Steve Isack’s caring nature and dedication to Members couple with his no-nonsense business prowess to allow him to navigate the healthcare system diligently on Members’ behalf while providing invaluable support and encouragement to PinnacleCare Member families.
Prior to joining PinnacleCare in December of 2004, Steve was a Social Worker at the University of Maryland Medical Center in Baltimore, providing clinical and case management services to the pediatric intensive care (PICU) and geriatric units. He worked with families and patients in critical times of uncertainty and loss, connecting them to helpful resources as well as providing emotional support and counsel.
After graduating from the University of Pittsburgh with his Bachelor of Arts in Political Science and Communications, Steve entered the Macy’s executive training program, where the departments he managed flourished because of his commitment to superior customer service. From there, Steve provided leadership in key marketing roles in several banking and mortgage-related enterprises.
Several years ago, Steve made the decision to put his career on hold to act as the primary caregiver for his brother-in-law Danny. Danny, who had Downs’ Syndrome, was in his last year of life, fighting a losing battle with leukemia. Steve managed Danny’s medical and psychosocial care, coordinated a medical treatment plan, and maintained his optimal social, recreational and daily functioning. Because of this life-changing experience, Steve decided to pursue a master’s degree in social work. He wanted to help other patients and families who were dealing with life-threatening illnesses.
Steve earned his master’s degree in social work from the University of Maryland. While studying, he served internships at the renowned Johns Hopkins Comprehensive Cancer Center and Hillel of Greater Baltimore. At Johns Hopkins, Steve was a member of the interdisciplinary pain team that was responsible for developing care plans for patients with difficult-to-control pain. He also utilized his marketing skills to promote the availability of social work services to patients.
Steve lives in Pikesville, Maryland, with his wife and two children. He enjoys spending time with his family, and is active on the board of his synagogue and of his children’s school. Steve is extremely involved in his community, working with the organization CHAI Lifeline to provide a wide range of services to children with cancer and their families. In memory of his late brother-in-law, Steve and his wife organize an annual blood drive, which has become the largest non-corporate blood drive in their area.
