A New York MinuteA Member traveling to Manhattan on business sprained his ankle getting out of a cab. He was in a great deal of pain, and knew that he had no idea where to go to be treated. He called his PinnacleCare Advocate, who contacted the Chief of Surgery Emeritus at the Hospital for Special Surgery and a member of Pinnacle Care's Medical Advisory Board. He recommended a qualified physician to treat the Member, and PinnacleCare was able to arrange for the physician to meet the Member at the emergency room. Rather than waiting for hours in the ER to see a lesser-qualified doctor, the PinnacleCare Member was connected to a specialist who could expeditiously and thoroughly treat his condition. After being treated, the PinnacleCare Member was able to resume his itinerary for the trip. Fall from a HorseA Member was horseback riding over the weekend and suffered a fall. As she was being transported to the emergency room at a top hospital in the area, her husband contacted their PinnacleCare Advocate to inform the team of the accident. Knowing the complexities and risks associated with a potential spinal cord injury, a PinnacleCare Advocate felt that a specialist should be present when the Member arrived at the ER. The PinnacleCare Advocate contacted the Chief of Neurology at the hospital, who was able to meet the Member as she arrived at the ER and work with the ER staff to ensure that stringent precautions were taken. Luckily, the Member was not seriously injured, and the family was extremely grateful that they were not subjected to the risks and delays associated with ER staffing during weekends and off-hours.
