Dr. Patricia Bloom is an Associate Clinical Professor of Geriatrics and Internal Medicine at Mount Sinai School of Medicine in New York, New York. She is the immediate past Vice Chair for Clinical Affairs of the Brookdale Department of Geriatrics and Adult Development, and has just completed a year-long sabbatical, studying complementary therapies and healthy aging. She has been involved in geriatric patient care, education, and research for over 25 years.

She graduated from the University of Minnesota Medical School with a Bachelor of Arts, in Humanities, cum laude. Dr. Bloom trained in internal medicine and social medicine at Montefiore Medical Center in Bronx, New York. She later joined the faculty of the Department of Medicine at Montefiore and Albert Einstein College of Medicine. Here she was instrumental in helping to establish a new Division of Geriatric Medicine at the hospital and developing the curriculum in geriatric medicine for the college. She became the Director of Education for the Division of Geriatric Medicine at St. Luke’s/Roosvelt Hospital Center, and later became the chief of the division. In 2002 she joined the faculty at Mt. Sinai as Vice Chair in the Department of Geriatrics.

Her major interests are the promotion of healthy aging, developing systems of care for the elderly and dementia. Her current research involvement includes a Mt. Sinai study on dietary influences on the basic mechanisms of aging, as well as a study of the influence of stress on aging.

She is an active member in numerous professional societies such as: Metropolitan Area Geriatrics Society, American Geriatrics Society, the American College of Physicians and The Gerontological Society of America. Dr. Bloom has been cited by New York Magazine for several years as one of the best geriatricians in New York and listed in America’s Top Doctor’s for four consecutive years now.
