Dr. Haskal is a top Endovascular Specialist and Interventional Radiology expert.  Following his completion of his fellowship in Vascular and Interventional Radiology in 1992, he joined the Department of Radiology at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania where he became the Director of Interventional Radiology Animal Research.  From there he joined the New York-Presbyterian Hospital in 1999 where he co-chaired the Vascular Service Line and was the Program Director of the Vascular and Interventional Radiology Fellowship Program and Research Lab.   During his eight years at New York-Presbyterian Hospital, Dr. Haskal broadened the Division’s clinical base, and advanced its research infrastructure and areas such as peripheral arterial disease, interventional oncology, dialysis access, and portal hypertension. 

 

Currently, Dr. Haskal is Chief of the Vascular and Interventional Radiology department at the University of Maryland Medical Center. 

                                                

Dr. Haskal has clinical specialties in minimally invasive catheter-based treatment of arterial and venous disease, aortic aneurysms, advanced liver and biliary disease, renal artery stents, pediatric intervention, uterine fibroid embolization, regional treatment of liver and colon malignancies, peripheral vascular disease, deep vein thrombosis, carotid stents, varicose vein laser therapy/ablation, and women’s health.  Research interests include stent-grafts in TIPS, arterial and venous systems, transjugular intrahepatic portosystemic shunts, renovascular hypertension, peripheral vascular disease, and deep vein thrombosis. 

 

Dr. Haskal has impressively been recognized as “Best Doctors in America”, “Top Doctors” in the United States by Castle Connolly, “Best Doctors” in Better Living Magazine, “The Best Doctors” in New York Magazine, and “Top Docs” in Philadelphia Magazine.  He has also received Honorary Membership by the Turkish Society of Radiology, the Sadek K. Hilal Faculty Research Award for Excellence in Clinical Research within the Columbia University Department of Radiology, and the Distinguished Faculty Award by the Society of Cardiovascular and Interventional Radiology. 

 

Additionally, Dr. Haskal is a member of the American College of Radiology, American Heart Association, American Roentgen Ray Society, Cardiovascular and Interventional Radiology, New York State Radiological Society, Pennsylvania Radiologic Society, Peripheral Vascular Imaging and Intervention Committee, Philadelphia Angiography and Interventional Radiology Society, Society of Interventional Radiology, and the Radiological Society of North America. 

 

Dr. Haskal has written more than 250 publications, including articles in the Journal of Vascular Interventional Radiology, New England Journal of Medicine, and Radiology.  He is Editor-in-Chief of Cardiovascular and Interventional Radiology and has edited books Interventional Radiology, Portal hypertension: diagnosis and interventions, and Thoracic and Vascular Interventions.   Additionally, Dr. Haskal has been a national and international speaker at more than 400 lectures and in 2007 designed and chaired the Society of Interventional Radiology’s Annual Meeting, the largest Interventional Radiology scientific meeting in the world.  He successfully co-founded Global Embolization Symposium and Technologies’ scientific meeting and co-authored the American Heart Association’s comprehensive Guidelines for the Treatment of Peripheral Arterial Disease.  Dr. Haskal is a leader in all aspects of vascular and interventional radiology due to his expertise, research, and clinical practice.
