Get proactive about patient safety

A recent article in The Wall Street Journal, “The informed patient” by Laura Landro, focused on the grassroots movement of patients and families getting vocal and proactive about patient safety in America’s hospitals. The facts driving this trend of assertive advocacy are tremendously disturbing. According to a government study, approximately 98,000 people die each year in U.S. as a result of medical errors. More lives are lost to these errors every six months than were lost during the entire duration of the Vietnam war. Worse, these deaths could have been prevented.

PinnacleCare Members have an extraordinary resource in the fight for better patient safety. Their personal advocate coordinates all their medical records and treatments, helps to ensure treating physicians are aware of all treatments and medications the patient is receiving and serves as an objective set of eyes and ears, there to ask questions and raise issues on the Members’ behalf. In addition, Advocates can provide cutting edge information on treatment options and clinical trials, arming the patient and family with the latest objective, scientifically sound information.
