Question Everything- Receiving a Correct Diagnosis
A PinnacleCare Member received a call from his mother located five hours away. His mother explained that she went to her local urgent care to receive a diagnosis for the dizziness and uncontrollable nausea that she was experiencing.
The physician at the urgent care told her that she had an inner ear problem, gave her medication, and told her to go to her primary care physician if she was still experiencing symptoms in two days. Hesitant of the urgent care’s diagnosis, the Member called PinnacleCare to help him help his mother look into second opinions.
The Member’s PinnacleCare Advocate was able to contact PinnacleCare’s in-house Medical Director to explain the Member’s situation. After reviewing the mother’s symptoms, the Medical Director stated that they needed to take further action and find the Member’s mother a neurologist.
The PinnacleCare Advocate located a neurologist close to the mother’s home and was able to secure an appointment for the next morning!
After ruling out several possible problems, the neurologist diagnosed the Member’s mother with a classic case of vertigo. The mother is currently receiving treatment and remains in the neurologist’s care.
