Russell F. Warren, M.D.

Dr. Warren is the former Surgeon-in-Chief of the Hospital for Special Surgery (HSS) in Manhattan and Professor of Orthopedics at the Weill Cornell Medical College. He is currently the Team Physician for the New York Giants and a member of the Board of Trustees for the National Football Foundation and Orthopaedic Research and Education Foundation.

His research interests include the study of the static and dynamic controls for shoulder and knee stability as well as the biology of healing of ligaments, tendons and methods to promote cellular repair or replacement. He has conducted a number of studies of athletic injuries particularly of the knee and shoulder and the ability to return to play at high levels. His clinical interests include shoulder and knee instability, ligament reconstruction and arthroscopy, shoulder replacement and reconstruction, rotator cuff disease and sports injuries.

Dr. Warren obtained his medical degree from the State University of New York Medical School in Syracuse. Then, he completed his internship and residency at St. Luke’s Hospital in New York. Dr. Warren continued his orthopaedic training with a residency in Orthopaedics at the Hospital for Special Surgery in New York, and a fellowship at Columbia Presbyterian Medical Center.

He is the past President of the American Orthopaedic Society for Sports Medicine and the American Shoulder and Elbow Society. He has published over 250 scientific articles and is also part of the Editorial Board of The Journal of Knee Surgery as well as Editor-in-Chief of the publication, Techniques in Shoulder and Elbow Surgery.
